Lamp Care

Lamp Wattage: Christopher Spitzmiller, Inc. lamp sockets hold Type A Appliance Bulbs. UL certification recommends 60w bulbs. If you would like to use a higher watt bulb, please adjust the swivel socket to allow 3+ inches of clearance between the bulb and the shade.

We recommend cleaning each part of your Christopher Spitzmiller lamp in the following manner:

To clean the base of your lamp: Use of liquids or solvents is not recommended, especially with gilded bases. Wipe the base of the lamp with a soft, dry cloth. The water gilding process used for finishing the bases allows for a patina to develop over time. This is a natural part of the lamp’s life and is an intended effect.

To clean the ceramic body of your lamp: Use a soft cloth to wipe the body of the lamp clean. Use care when using a damp cloth in order to avoid damage to the finish of the lamp’s base.

To clean the brass end cap and hardware: Use a soft cloth to wipe the end cap and hardware clean. Brass end caps are not coated with a lacquer and will therefore develop a patina over time. Use care if using brass polish in order to avoid damaging the finish of the lamp’s base and ceramic body. Brass lamp hardware is coated with a lacquer finish and will not require polishing.

To clean the nickel end cap and hardware: Use a soft cloth to wipe the end cap and hardware clean. Nickel end caps and lamp hardware are coated with a lacquer and will not require polishing.

To clean the paper lampshade: Use a soft cloth or feather duster to wipe the lampshade clean. Use great care if using a damp cloth, as moisture can cause discoloration and deformation of the lampshade’s paper surface and trim.
